P.E. is Important - by Ryan Chen

Did you ever wonder why the school hires P. E. teachers to make you run around? Don’t like it? I do! I think P. E. is important because you get exercise, it makes you healthy, and you can learn more sports.

Firstly, you can get exercise regularly in P. E. classes. You run in mile runs and sports. You catch a football and run with it as fast as you can. You test your limits and set goals when you run.

Secondly, P. E. makes you healthy. You run to burn calories, or energy. This makes your body lean and fit.

Finally, in P. E. classes, you get to learn more sports such as baseball, basketball, and football. You might become so good at a sport that you can make money doing that sport when you grow up and be famous.

In summary, I strongly think P. E. is an important subject at school and should not be cut short. Besides academics, it is important to have a strong and healthy body.

What is Your Favorite Type of Car? - by Ryan Chen

The Lamborghini is the best car ever because it’s fast, safe, and fancy.

Firstly, it is fast. The Lamborghini has a V-12 engine which can reach more than 260 miles per hour! This is extremely fast compared to other cars.

Secondly, the car is a safe type of car. It has passed many safety inspections. When it crashes, there are only cracked headlights, crushed up hood, crushed and wrecked radiator and motor, and also cracked glass.

Lastly, this type of car is fancy. It only comes in bright colors. It is very sleek and very streamlined for speed. It also has fancy winged doors and sparkling, shiny paint.

In summary, I think the Lamborghini is the best car ever because of its exceptional speed, superior safety features, and fancy design. It is the champion of all cars.

My Top Three Favorite Series ~ by Alyssa Chen

Although there are many great book series for children, I enjoy reading the Nancy Drew, Thea Stilton, and Harry Potter. First of all, one of my favorite series is the Nancy Drew series. One reason I like it is because it is a series that includes friendship and mysteries. Nancy Drew, Bess Marvin, and Georgia Fayne are three friends that work together to solve mysteries and they call themselves Clue Crew. Every book in this series has a page in the back that teaches you how to make a craft. Also, another of my favorite series is the Thea Stilton series. I like it because it is also full of mysteries and friendship. Colette, Violet, Pamela, Paulina, and Nicky travel around the world during their school year in Mouseford. They always visit new places and they never expect a mystery though there is always one awaiting them. Last but not least, my favorite series is the Harry Potter series. I like it the most because it is very magical, mysterious and helps my reading level. Clearly, these are my top three favorite series. I hope you’ll be inspired to try one yourself.

The Best Pet ~ by Sarah Zhang

What is the best pet? The German Shepherd is the best pet! Why? First of all, they are loyal to their owners. For example, the American Kennel Club rates them as one of the most loyal breed of dogs. Another reason German Shepherds are  great pets is because they are very protective. German Shepherds are very territorial. When strangers come into their territory or someone’s house, they will be like an alarm and bark. These dogs can fight by scratching or biting. Also, dogs can teach their owners responsibility. Every day, their owners have to clean up after them, take them out to use the restroom, take them on walks, groom and feed them, and once in a while, take them to see the vet. Last, but not least, it is great fun to play with German Shepherds. You can spend hours playing fetch, catch, or just rolling around with them. These are only a few ways of playing with German Shepherds. In conclusion, German Shepherd dogs are the best pet you can have. These dogs are man’s best friend.

Books or Movies? ~ by Abby Fong

Reading books is better than watching movies. First of all, books educate me. Movies are mostly for entertainment, but books are more likely to educate me with interesting facts. Secondly, I can read a book almost any time I want to. I can read a little then stop, then keep reading, but movies can take up to one to two hours at least. Also, books can improve your vocabulary. They can have many words you don’t know which you can look up in a dictionary, if you want to. Last of all, books usually won’t have many scary pictures. Pictures of scary things may give someone a nightmare. As you can see, reading is a better choice than watching movies.

My Favorite Subject ~ by Allison Wu

In school, I have many subjects on my favorites list but, reading is at the very top of the list. Firstly, reading educates me. Reading helps other subjects in school. For example, helps me improve my vocabulary. It also gives me more ideas for writing. Also, reading gives me some peace and quiet time. When it is reading time nobody is allowed to bother me. I can read on the the bed so it is very relaxing. Finally I have a lot of fun reading books. I go on my many adventures just by reading. I enjoy reading mysteries, fantasies, and many types of books. At school, I can have iPad time if I read a lot. As you can see, I love reading for many reasons.

My Favorite Place to Travel - by Miriam Chen

Do you have a favorite place to travel?  Mexico, Turkey, or Taiwan? Well, let me tell you mine. My favorite place to travel is Taiwan. First of all, in Taiwan there are lots of fun places to visit. For example, the zoo. The last time I went to the zoo in Taiwan, I saw many animals that I didn’t see in California. The top five animals that I saw there were pandas, tigers, monkeys, bears, and a few birds that I have never seen before.  Another fun place to visit is Taipei 101.  Once you reach to the top, you will feel like you’re on top of the world. Finally, another place to visit is the parks. Even though some of them are pretty small, they are still fun to play tag with your friends.
Another reason why Taiwan is the best place to visit is because of its food.  Most of the restaurants have yummy food. For example, I remember a restaurant that served my favorite vegetable dish, which was yam leaves. Also, they have extremely yummy bao zi (Chinese buns)  which I loved, too.
Finally Taiwan has the best night markets with games, food, toys, etc. The last time I went to the night market, I won a cute-looking stuffed animal. Some of the games that they put out are dart games, ball games, and marbles. There are a lot of machines where you can try to grab stuffed animals out of. Also, they have the best shaved ice with toppings and pearl milk tea.  Besides all of this, the reason I like going to Taiwan is because I get to visit my cousin, grandma, friends, and the cat that lives in Taiwan with my grandma. All in all, I think Taiwan is the best place to visit.

Are School Lunches Healthy? ~by Alison Wu

Even though our school encourages us to eat a balanced meal, our school lunch is not actually that good for us. Our school is changing a lot of our main dishes into whole wheat or whole grain alternatives, such as whole grain macaroni and cheese and hamburgers with whole wheat buns. Even though part of it is healthy, not all of the ingredients are good for you, and they do not taste as good. For example, once I had a whole wheat burrito that came in a package, and the ingredients label said it had artificial preservatives! Our school lunches are not always as healthy as they appear to be.
When you say fruit, you usually think of an apple or a banana, but our school often serves frozen, chopped-up fruit with a lot of sugar water. Their other fruits usually come in slices in packages. Also, some yard duties at my school say that we can only have either one serving of a fruit or vegetable. As you can see, school lunches are not always that healthy.

My First Time on Scratch ~ by Morgan Silcox

My first time on Scratch was Amazing! I first created a project called “Pie Fight” I think that was one of my best projects. I still need to work on it though, for I have not finished yet on that project.
I love to make all sorts of remixes and other stuff that are related to remixes. I have a studio that is called “The Awesome Group” I think it is kind of cool to have people help me get some stuff done on scratch! We all submit our projects to the studio and share them to see how we do scratch.
I’m not so sure how many followers I have, but I know I have a lot. Most of all I like the games on scratch and the really awesome programming sites. I think it is quite fun!
Lots of people I know are on scratch most of the time. I know this girl and she is on scratch EVERY DAY like 24.7 I really like the way scratch is and how it is designed. I’m not so sure how people move sprites around, because I CAN’T EVEN MOVE MY SPRITE AROUND!!!

Scratch can only be used on a computer or laptop which is sad because I really want to bring my I pad along to play scratch at the same time. I know you need a mouse to control the sprites. It’s just UGH I can’t explain.
You can change sprite or make a sprite. Choosing a sprite is a really bad idea because all of their sprites are really ugly! So, I recommend making one out of your own imagination instead of using the old used ones.
I really like scratch and I hope I can make more awesome animations!

My favorite pet - by Elizabeth Zhang

Chio is a dog that is 8 years old, and she came to our house last Thursday, 10/1/14. She has white, curly fur, and her breed is a Maltipoo (Maltese/ Poodle). My mom’s friend is on vacation, so she handed Chio to us until the end of October. She only listens to your commands when you have a treat with you. When you come home from school, work, or a class, then she will do something we call “The Happy Dance”. First, she stands up, her paws facing towards you. Then, she gets down and let you belly- rub her. She likes to go on walks, but she will want to go back after a short distance. One day, she found her treat bag and bit it open! Because of that, I moved her treat bag to the drawer in the kitchen, so she couldn’t reach it. Whenever she takes a shower, she tries to jump out of the tub. After she’s took a shower, she keeps on rubbing her head on her towel desperately. All in all, Chio is may favorite dog.

The Year 2050...by Jasmine Hou

In the year 2050, cars exist no more! Instead there are hovercrafts! Everyone has on, even kids!

In the year 2050, no one needs to worry about the cold or the heat anymore because of the new “Season Changing Suit”! In the wintertime, the suit turns into a thick fur coat and in the summertime, it turns into a thin T-shirt. When the temperature goes very high or very low, the automatic air conditioning or heater turns on! At night, your “Season Changing Suit” even turns into pajamas!

Better than the “Season Changing Suit”, there is “Harold’s Purple Crayon”! According to the story, “Harold’s Purple Crayon” lets you draw whatever you want and it comes to life! The only rule is, you're not allowed to draw any weapons of any sort (safety first)! The future is littered with prizes. This is what I think 2050 looks like!

The Year 2050... by Adam Xu

In the year 2050 there will be much more technology and stuff. For example, instead of having to drive cars, people will have self-driving BMW X-5s. There will also be no school, because scientists will find out how to expose radiation to the brain and they will learn everything. Also, people can make energy by farting! There will be no more global warming because all the cows will be told to stop burping. (Cow burps contain methane).Instead of regular desks, there will be recliners made out of sheep wool and the “desk” will be raised platforms connected to the internet. Also, there will not be any kids forced to write long, wordy, essays! Also, instead of regular pencils, there will be computers that write by voice command, and there will be nanobots that fix stuff, so you won’t have to go to the repair shop. There will also be machines that make food appear out of thin air. (Sorry, Einstein, your theory was incorrect) In conclusion, 2050 will be a high-tech year!

My Awesome Trip to Great America ~ by Katie Chung

It all started when I woke up……..

Just like any other morning, tired, sleepy, and annoyed but excited for the new day. I go use the bathroom and then get my iPad and play. My mom just finished cooking my breakfast: Noodles, my favorite food, salty and warm. It was just what I wanted. It was Labor Day so I had no school! My dad was home too. My mom moved a high chair and put my noodles on top. I just watched YouTube for fun. My dad said we will be going to Great America so I brought a swimsuit because they had really fun water slide. I wore a purple dress with pink or orange shorts.

Lunch time… we went to Boston Market for lunch. I dropped my corn so it was everywhere.  After, my mom and I went to Yogurtland for a simple dessert and we were off to Great America. We drove past ROLCC and finally we were at Great America. We needed to renew our golden pass. The place to renew your card was next to Subway.

We passed…

The Gold Striker!
After a lot of walking I was not surprised by any rides. I entered Snoopy World. Finally, I was in the water park. I saw the water maze but last time I went, I was as frozen as Anna from Frozen. My dad and mom said I should go there but because of what happened last time I don't feel like it. We walked for a long time and took a picture with Snoopy and my dad found a Snoopy dance that was about Snoopy. In the show I saw a huge iPhone.

When I found the water park my feet were ready to walk fast. I first saw the kid water place. There was this water gate thing wand. I went inside to play but then it was time to go to the real thing.  I played with the small slide for a bit and then I went to the big slide. I took a small break and went back. Then I was ready to go to the big slide.

I had to go through many things first. The top there is a bucket thing that pours water on you. The people on top of the slide were waiting and they were bored so they splashed the people on the bottom with really cold water. When I waited on the stairs for the slide, the big bucket splashed water on everyone about 2 times. I had to wait for a dad and child that took like forever, but now it was my turn. So much water was rushing on me, the feeling was so good but it was very cold water.

I wanted to rush back to my mom, but I could not find her. Instead I found my dad but he didn't know where my mom was either. I saw her come with a Dippin'Dots ice cream. Afterwards we went to find a ride to play to finish the day. We went on this spinning ride. I wanted to go with my mom. She didn't like the idea but she did it anyway. We had to wait and it seemed like such a long time she thought the seat number 11 was the slowest so we planned to go there. We ended up in another seat. The announcement was said and the ride started moving, my mom was pretty scared.

After that we went to play a game. I played the fishing game and you have a fishing pole but you fish for a frog. I got about 14 points and I got a reindeer. My mom asked me what I wanted to name it. I called it Sven Jr. It reminded me of Sven from Frozen. Now I wanted to play another game. It was a bowling game and last time I went to Great America I got two sharks. My dad got two strikes but nothing else. We could get a small one or if I give my reindeer I could get a big one. I looked and looked and I spotted a blue one. It took some time until I got it and I really liked it. We turned back to go home.
